Joint Pain: Shoulder, Knees, Hip, Wrists
Pain can occur in any of the body’s many joints due to a variety of reasons and osteopathic treatment is a very effective tool in managing and/or eliminating symptoms.
Symptoms:
- Sharp and/or dull pain
- Heat and swelling due to inflammation
- Restricted mobility
- Crunching and grating
Causes:
- Arthritis (Osteo, Rheumatoid and Gout)
- Traumatic Injury (e.g. Whiplash, dislocation, fractures)
- Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI), (e.g. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Tennis Elbow)
- Tumours
Treatment:
Treatment involves gentle articulation and mobilisation of the affected joints. Soft Tissue Release Techniques (such as massage) will be carried out first to help soften and relax the contracted muscles that are overworking to protect the painful joint. Patients should notice a considerable reduction of pain and an overall improvement in the range of movement of the joint whilst having osteopathic treatment. The number of treatments required (usually between one and six) will depend on the severity of the symptoms and how long they have been there.
